The Symba Spotlight Part One: Anika Pasilis
This week, we are starting a new series on the blog called Symba Spotlight, where we will feature a remote intern every week and discuss their innovative work. For our first post in the series, I’m spotlighting myself, Anika Pasilis. I started my remote internship with Symba in April after coronavirus cancelled my first internship.
I am excited to highlight my fellow remote interns’ achievements in this series. Read on to learn more about my experience with Symba so far!
Please share a bit about yourself in 3-5 sentences.
I study journalism, Middle Eastern Studies, and Arabic at the University of Arizona. One day, I would love to be an investigative journalist at a major newspaper. My hobbies are cooking and reading historical fiction.
Tell us about your remote internship. What is your title, and what are the projects and daily tasks you work on?
I'm a marketing intern with Symba. I write blogs about what is happening in the remote internship space and help support the team in various ways. I also assist with media outreach and help tailor Symba's message to the world.
What are you enjoying most about your remote internship?
I enjoy the flexibility, but mainly the fact I don't have to find a way to pack up and move to an expensive city. In this day and age, basically anything can be done with a laptop or a mobile phone, crushing the previous notion that you had to be at the right place at the right time to make a difference. I'm making a difference right here from Tucson! I also love how supportive my team is and how I learn something new about business and marketing everyday.
How has your company and internship manager supported you through your internship?
So many ways! I always get feedback on my blogs and writing. I'm always told how I can improve, which means a lot as a budding writer. I have weekly meetings with the entire team and the founder, Ahva. This sort of communication is incredibly supportive because it's showing me what I'm doing, both correctly and incorrectly. All feedback is valuable. I've learned so much in these past two months. Everyone on the team is dedicated to my success, which gives me even more motivation to succeed.
What new skills have you learned so far?
I would say to keep an open mind. A remote internship isn't like anything you have experienced before. It is enlightening and valuable. Take advantage of team members offering help; they want to be there to support you! Ask questions, and most importantly, have fun! This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Soak in as much as you can.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I would also like to add that everyone should experience a remote internship. Knowing what you are capable of at home is powerful. Have confidence and move onward, from one remote intern to another, you got this!
